Review: ‘Push and Shove’ by No Doubt

It’s been more than 10 years since No Doubt released an album and their latest release Push and Shove shows where the band has taken off.

The music has some new touches but still has that old vibe, it’s like they’ve incorporated everything they’ve learned from their solo projects in this album. You have a ballad acoustic-laced song in Undone, a mid-tempo style track in One More Summer, catchy poppish tunes like Easy and Gravity and a lot more in store.

Push and Shove is by far one of the best releases this year and the album is so spectacular that it’s one of their greatest releases.

Listening to some of the tracks in the album makes me want to dance to the groove just like their first single, the six-minute plus song Settle Down, which has that funky 70s electronica dance hall/reggae feel.

Review: ‘Great Round Burn’ by Kaki King

I only came across Kaki King and her single Great Round Burn by chance as I was skimming through the Rolling Stone website sometime in September, and man, am I sure glad that I did. The song found its debut there and was featured as a free download.

Honestly, I had no particular reason to download and listen to the song but I did. One would say that it was fated but then I’m not one who believes in such – and I digress. At just 15-20 seconds in to the track, I found myself already hooked. And by the time it was finished, I was already looking forward to purchasing the whole album, which is entitled Glow.

Great Round Burn is one whole instrumental track of pure unadulterated stringed acoustics where the intro starts off light with a few plucks from the strings of the guitar and is then followed shortly by an upbeat rhythm and violin accompaniment (which is actually the part where I got hooked). My fascination with acoustic songs just grew even more after listening to the rest of the tracks from the album.

Madonna Booed For Endorsing Obama During Concert

It seems like Madonna is out to make sure that she does everything and anything she can to give each and every one of her concerts its own share of controversy as she completes her MDNA tour. Just like what she did during her concert in New Orleans on Saturday as he touted her support for President Barack Obama.

As she took a moment to engage her audience in between songs, Madonna asked the crowd, “Who’s registered to vote?” and then later followed it up with, “I don’t care who you vote for as long as you vote for Obama.” But as it turned out, [some of] her fans don’t like the idea of being told who to vote for, particularly when they just wanted to be entertained. Hence they responded to the Megastar’s question with boos to show their disapproval and contempt.

The last time Madonna mentioned the incumbent President’s name was back in Washington D.C. when she told the crowd, “So, you all better vote for f—kin’ Obama, OK? For better or for worse, all right, we have a black Muslim in the White House!” Man, you just got to hand to Madge, she sure has a knack for drawing controversy to her shows.

Lady Gaga Confirms ‘Telephone’ Sequel Via Twitter

News buzz about the sequel to Lady Gaga’s hit single Telephone being included in her upcoming album ARTPOP started to spread just moments after the singer responded to a question posted by a fan on Twitter regarding the song.

Said fan tweeted the Mother Monster asking if the continuation for Telephone will be included in the new album, to which Lady Gaga very simply replied, “fact.”

Her response – and the news about it – has thrilled lots of her devoted fans and got them even more excited about the new album. Due to the brevity of her response, there’s really not much information to answer other questions: will it once again feature Beyonce or will it be a solo?

And if that’s not enough to make you wonder, then what if we told you that Lady Gaga’s response tweet to the question is no longer on her feed? We still managed to get the original posts, but apparently they have been deleted. Was it a slip of the tongue – a mistake?

Now we’re left with even more questions than answers. One thing is still certain though, and that is that the new album will still be released in 2013.

Another Media Hoax for James Blunt

The news about singer-songwriter James Blunt quitting music for good has just turned out to be a statement that got out of hand, as reported by the Daily Mail.

It all started when Blunt was cornered by a Daily Mail writer in London and he jokingly said to the latter, “I just want to take some time out for myself. I haven’t got any plans to do more songwriting. I have been chilling out since I finished my world tour and I’ve spent a lot of time in Ibiza, where I have a villa.” The site then translated it to a headline and so other credible sites followed the report as a fact and reported it as well.

Since then, a number of strange and hilarious tweets regarding his ‘retirment’ have surfaced:

For Blunt, that incident was just a joke and has been tweeting the links about the story. It’s not the first time for him to experience being the subject of a false headline, as last May of this year he was a victim of an internet hoax that reported him dead.

Ex-Boyfriends Beware: Taylor Swift Admits to Writing Own Real-Life Breakup Songs

Taylor Swift, who is known for writing songs about her past loves, admitted that her entire album is about her exes again, though she did mention that she only sings about those who are responsible for messing up her life.

“They never go into this like, ‘I really want to ask you out – could you not write songs about us?’” she revealed to ET Online. “They say that when we’re breaking up and they’re like, ‘You better not write a song about this!’ And I’m like, ‘Oh I won’t!’ And then I do.”

But not all exes are fair game. If you treat her well, you might be spared. “I take these songs and these people who inspire these songs on a case-by-case basis,” she says. “If they were someone who was a good person, I’m not going to write something bad about them. But if they handle a situation in a way that really messed up my life for a while, that’s what I’m going to write about.”
“I’ve found that men I’ve dated who are in the same business can be really competitive. I’ve found a great group of girlfriends in the same business who aren’t competitive, but a few times guys have started comparing careers and it has been…challenging.”

Taylor Swift continued, “The last thing I think about when I fall for someone is what they do for a living as I like to get to know that person, but sometimes guys start acting weirdly towards me, especially if I get good news and they get bad… It’s usually downhill from there.”

The 22-year-old charmer is currently dating 18-year-old Conor Kennedy, son of Robert Kennedy, Jr. and the late Mary Kennedy. And she expresses gratitude about her past experiences because of how they have helped build her relationship with her first love, which is music. “I wouldn’t change the way that things have gone because I love getting to do this,” Taylor says. “And I live to write songs. That’s what I live for. I love – just it’s the same feeling I fell in love with when I was 12 years old, when I first got a guitar, learned how to play it and wrote my first song. I feel that rush every time I finish a new one. And that’s why I love doing this.”

Chris Brown Spotted With His Ex-Love Karrueche Tran

Just a couple of days after being spotted in a Jay-Z concert with former flame Rihanna, Chris Brown and his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran were seen at the singer’s Hollywood Hills home on Monday afternoon, where they were reported to have left the place later in separate cars.

One of Chris’s friends said, “Hell no, they’re (Chris and Karrueche) not together. He with Rihanna and ain’t creeping with K.T. She needed a favor and he did it for her, plus she needed to be escorted around his house to get the rest of her s**t out his place. Ain’t no funny business between them. He just helped her out one time with something and she needed to get her s**t. No big deal.”

“Chris wasn’t around this weekend to let her get her things, so she did so today. It does hurt her a bit to see him and I’m sure no matter what anyone says there are still feelings on both their parts. But anyway, he’s a dog and hopefully this is her last time around his a**.” The source added.

One of Karrueche’s close friends said, “All Karrueche is doing is moving her stuff and tying up some loose ends with Chris. That’s all there is to it. Chris has a part of her, yes, but she’s strong enough to move past him and I know she wants to.”

Brown also released a confessional video entitled The Real Chris Brown, where he candidly discussed his relationships with RiRi and Tran, and posed the controversial question, “Is there such a thing as loving two people?”

But then, he also released a statement about his breakup with Tran. “I have decided to be single to focus on my career. I love Karrueche very much and I don’t want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I’d rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives.”
