Stone Temple Pilots Surprise Fans with Performance

Fans get another big surprise from L.A. radio station KROQ’s annual Weenie Roast when 90’s rock band Stone Temple Pilots performed onstage with Chester Bennington of Linkin Park as their lead singer. The unannounced performance saw a blistering set from the band that included old songs such as Sex Type Thing, Vasoline, Wicked Garden, Dead & Bloated, and Interstate Love Song.

Bennington, who grew up listening to the band, said it was a no-brainer saying yes to this kind of opportunity. Aside from the live performance, he also hit the studio to record a track with the band, drawing conclusions that he’s now the new frontman of STP after the band parted ways with Scott Weiland.

Out Of Time is their latest track, which is free for download for limited time. The band’s official website also features Chester on the photos so it seems he’s now their new lead singer.

According to STP guitarist Dean DeLeo, Bennington was there first choice for the gig, and only he can fill in the void left by Weiland.

But don’t worry Linkin Park fans, as Chester is still the singer of the band and will continue to be their frontman. STP has announced that he will play with them in between commitments to Linkin Park.

Jimi Hendrix’s Lost Album ‘People, Hell & Angels’

An album consisting of 12 previously unreleased songs by Jimi Hendrix will be released this Tuesday (March 5th), according to a statement posted on the official Hendrix website. The posthumous album titled People, Hell & Angels is a collection of Hendrix’s studio performances as recorded by his sound engineer Eddie Kramer.

The album was supposed to act as a follow-up to Hendrix’s album Electric Ladyland in 1968 but was never officially released because of his death on September 18, 1970, that is, until now.

The statement also said that it “presents some of the finest Jimi Hendrix guitar work ever issued and provides a compelling window into his growth as a songwriter, musician and producer.” It adds that the tracks “encompass a variety of unique sounds and styles incorporating many of the elements – horns, keyboards, percussion and second guitar – Jimi wanted to explore within his new music.”

The compilation features various collaborations such as Somewhere with Stephen Stills, Mojo Man with the Aleem brothers (twin vocalists of Ghetto Fighters), Let Me Love You with his mentor Lonnie Youngblood, and a few more.

You can check out all of the tracks via preview that was released as a stream on NPR’s First Listen.

Here’s a video from CBS News which was aired on Sunday, March 3, 2013.

YouTube Star Austin Mahone Gets To Sign Record Deal

In their June 15th issue, The Hollywood Reporter featured a 16-year-old YouTuber named Austin Mahone who was posting videos of himself covering songs by Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson and, yes, Justin Bieber. With videos having already garnered over 83 million views and his subscriber number almost reaching 450,000, it is quite understandable why Chase Records has eventually taken interest in signing the teen phenom up under their label through Universal Republic, the home of talented musicians like Owl City, Florence + The Machine, and the late Amy Winehouse.

With more than one million Twitter followers, it didn’t take long for the news to spread the moment Mahone tweeted about the milestone, which was then retweeted more than 7,000 times. The tweet included a photo of him together with his mom and the members of the record label.

This young fellow has already been dubbed by some as “Baby Bieber”, the guy who’s also predicted to give ol’ Justin a run for his money. It’s been reported that his deal came to a tune of around $3 to $4 million.

The Beatles Latest Release ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ Compilation on iTunes

Celebrating their 50th anniversary of first hits, the most influential band of all time The Beatles have released a new compilation called Tomorrow Never Knows, a collection of 14 classic tracks that is deemed to be the group’s “most powerful rock songs.”

The latest release is sold via iTunes.

Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters wrote a cover letter on what the Fab Four meant to him, noting that “if it weren’t for The Beatles, I would not be a musician. It’s as simple as that. From a very young age I became fascinated with their songs, and over the years have drowned myself in the depth of their catalogue. Their groove and their swagger. Their grace and their beauty. Their dark and their light. The Beatles seemed to be capable of anything. They knew no boundaries, and in that freedom they seemed to define what we now know today as ‘Rock and Roll.’”

And Your Bird Can Sing

Back In The U.S.S.R.
